Description
Fed-up with the ravages of meth addiction on his loved ones, a self-proclaimed renegade declares a war on San Francisco’s dealers by torching their drug dens. The public outcry supporting the “Meth House Arsonist”, a nickname coined by the media, suggests that two wrongs do make a right until the unexpected fatalities are a beloved high school football coach and a socialite’s drug-dealing stepson. But, were the dead, innocent victims, or predatory criminals corrupt cops ignored? The coach’s widow, Ana, holds the answer, but is too fearful of Candace Thorndike to reveal it. Candace, a socialite more interested in appearances than the realities of her life, vilifies Ana as a cunning conspirator in the tragic deaths. Using the coach’s corpse to polish her family’s sterling reputation recently tarnished by her stepson’s drug-dealing activities, Candace sues Ana, pilfering the coach’s memorial fund well-wishers have established. When attorney Alexandria (“Alex”) Lane intervenes, defending Ana from Candace’s attacks, measuring justice for the real killer, pits one-time friends, Candace and Alex, against each other in a high-stakes case worthy of gavel-to-gavel CNN coverage. Was Candace more pimp than parent to her stepson, finding customers to fuel his drug-dealing activities, only to have him murdered because he wouldn’t share the take? Did a scorned student calculate the murders when coach halted her drug supply? Or, was a notorious gang leader, guarding his turf by eliminating the competition, responsible for ordering a hit on these two lives? A rogue cop also has a stake when Alex discovers his bungled investigation. Pointing the finger at any of these suspects will save Ana’s case and Alex’s career, but not necessarily Alex’s life. Death threats occur, and when another dead body turns up, the ordinarily unflappable Alex realizes hers could be next, unless she stops the Meth House Arsonist. "Meth House" is written about an interesting, ripped-from-the-headlines topic, the prevalent use of meth in America. It is the first story that illustrates in an interesting way how meth ruins lives.
